Biography:
Marty Heflin graduated from Vanderbilt University on an NROTC Scholarship in 1980 with an Economics/History double major. He served as a U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Officer, receiving the Navy Achievement and Commendation Medals. In 1986, he received an MBA from Wake Forest University, graduating with high honors as a Babcock Scholar and winner of the prestigious Bob White award for field study project. Mr. Heflin worked for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company from 1986-1989 responsible for the brand management of the $2 billion sales brand, Winston. In 1989 Mr. Heflin began his real estate career with Trammell Crow Residential in North Florida. In the course of ten years with Trammell Crow, Marty developed over 2,000 apartment homes in Orlando and Melbourne, Florida and in Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee. In 1999, he left his partnership with Crow to become one of the founding partners of Wood Partners. Under the Wood banner, Mr. Heflin developed close to 1,000 more units in Nashville, Tennessee and in the greater Washington D.C. market. In October 2001, Mr. Heflin formed the M2H Group to pursue his dream of building a multifamily development firm predicated on the principles of quality design and innovative vision. The M2H Group is currently involved in the adaptive re-use of the historic Stahlman Building in downtown Nashville and 807 Eighteenth, and 1101 Eighteenth, high-density condominium projects in Midtown Nashville. M2H Group expanded to Denver, Colorado in March, 2005 and is currently developing the 1185 Birch condominiums. Mr. Heflin has been active in the Urban Land Institute, the Seaside Institute and the Congress for New Urbanism. He has served as President of the Greater Nashville Apartment Association, Chairman of the Apartment Council of Tennessee and President of the Tennessee Apartment Association. Married to the former Eileen Ahern of Washington DC, Marty is raising three daughters. In between ballet recitals he squeezes in his hobbies of triathloning, kayaking and astronomy.
