Unlike the coursework for typical MBA students, who average several years of work experience, the curriculum for the Vanderbilt Executive MBA program was created specifically for established executives in or approaching senior leadership positions in their organizations. Typical Executive MBA students have 10-18 years of experience. They experience plenty of live case examples every week at work to enrich classroom learning with opportunities to apply knowledge immediately.
In addition to helping you master the fundamental disciplines across the spectrum of business—strategy, marketing, operations, human and organizational performance, finance, economics and accounting—the curriculum focuses on how these fundamentals relate specifically to changing the way you respond to challenges you face and the decisions you make on the job, including:
• Making decisions with imperfect information
• Competing on a local, regional, national or global scale
• Deconstructing barriers to innovation
• Creating value throughout the organization
• Identifying process improvements
• Focusing on growth and profitability
• Leading an organization, comprised of people and emotions, through times of turbulence and change
To equip you with the skills for senior leadership, the Vanderbilt Executive MBA program begins with a strong core of integrated coursework in organization management, finance, accounting, statistics, economics, operations and marketing.
Then, in the second year, the curriculum challenges you to draw upon everything you have learned up to that point with “capstone” courses that prepare you for the big-picture responsibilities of business strategy, management of a global enterprise and venture creation.
Vanderbilt Executive MBA Curriculum
All Vanderbilt Executive MBA students must complete 60-credit-hours of coursework taken in sequence with their classmates. The lockstep nature is critical to the vital role of assigned Study Groups, since each member brings diverse functional and industry perspectives to the shared learning experience and team deliverables.
