Interdisciplinary Program in Social Psychology
Doctoral students in Organization Studies interested in research that is grounded in social psychology may wish to consider participating or enrolling in the Interdisciplinary Program in Social Psychology. The Interdisciplinary Program provides doctoral students in five administrative units of the University—including the Owen doctoral program—the opportunity to pursue a concentration or minor in social psychology.
Students are admitted to, and receive their doctoral degrees from, one of the participating departments (such as Organization Studies at Owen) but take a minimum of five courses in social psychology drawn from the five participating administrative units of the University. In addition, students are expected to join an interdisciplinary seminar in social psychology, offered jointly by the participating units, for each of at least three semesters. Those choosing a concentration will conduct their dissertation research in social psychology.
Faculty members in Organization Studies at Owen who participate in the Interdisciplinary Program include:
- William P. Smith (Psychology)
- Peggy A. Thoits (Sociology)
- Bruce Barry (Management)
- Ray Friedman (Management)
- Craig A. Smith (Psychology and Human Development)
- Kenneth A. Wallston (Nursing)
